5 Activities to Connect with Nature When You Can’t Go Outside

19 March 2025

At Mori Cabin and through Mori Learning, we explore ways to deepen our connection with nature, whether outdoors or indoors. Here are five ways to engage with nature-inspired practices from home.

1. Start a Nature Journal

Nature journaling is a core practice in our workshops. Observe a houseplant, sketch patterns from a leaf, or write about a past outdoor experience. Journaling develops observation skills and strengthens our relationship with the natural world.

2. Bring the Outdoors In Design

Your living space with natural materials—wood, stone, dried plants—or start a small indoor garden. Creating a mindful environment inspired by nature is central to the way we think about design at Mori Cabin.

3. Practice Sensory Awareness

Our educational programs encourage slowing down and noticing. Sit by a window, listen to the sounds outside, or pay attention to the shifting light in your space. Tuning into these small details cultivates a sense of presence.

4. Explore Nature Through Learning

Join one of our workshops to dive deeper into plant intelligence, nature journaling, or landscape curation. Reading about forests, ecological design, or seasonal cycles can also expand your perspective, even when indoors.

5. Grow Something from Scratch Planting

Herbs, sprouting seeds, or tending to an indoor plant connects you to the natural cycles we explore in Mori Learning programs. Watching something grow is a reminder of nature’s quiet resilience.

At Mori Cabin and Mori Learning, we believe nature is not just a place but a perspective. Even indoors, there are ways to engage, observe, and learn.
