How to Start Nature Journaling on Your Own

Nature journaling is a powerful way to observe and connect with the world around you. All you need is a notebook and pen. Find a quiet spot—your backyard, a park, or even a window view—and start noting what you see, hear, and feel. Sketch, describe, and ask questions about your surroundings. There’s no right or wrong—just curiosity and attention.

  1. Choose a Regular Spot – Observe how it changes over time.
  2. Use All Your Senses – Listen, touch, and even smell to deepen observations.
  3. Start Small – Just a few minutes a day can build consistency.
  4. Mix Writing & Sketching – Express your observations visually and verbally.
  5. Reflect & Expand – Look back at past entries to notice patterns and insights.
  6. To build a habit, commit to a regular schedule that works for you. Over time, you’ll develop deeper awareness and creative expression.

Want to refine your practice? Join a Mori Learning Nature Journaling Workshop and explore with guidance. See the next event in our Webinars and Workshops section.
